Ebooks: How to Access: Download Software to your Device

How to access eBooks via PHSC databases.

Downloading Adobe Digital Editions onto a desktop or laptop computer

 

  • To download Adobe Digital Editions go to the Adobe website for the download. Here is the link
  • Click on your type of operating system - Macintosh or Windows. To start the download
  • When the download is finished, double click on the file
  • Allow the program to run, accept all conditions, and choose how you want to save the application
  • Once the installation is complete, the program will open up

Almost done

  • When you open up a book or item in Adobe Digital Editions, it will ask you for a Adobe ID
  • There is a link next to the ebook Vendor Adobe ID that says Create Adobe ID - click on it
  • Fill out the form and click Create ID
  • Adobe will send you an e-mail  
  • Your Adobe ID is your e-mail address and then whatever password you created
  • The Adobe ID allows you to transfer Adobe ebook content to different devices
  • There is another step for creating an ID, you do not have to do this step unless you want to
  • You can click on a little box at the bottom left of the corner that says authorize my computer without ID

Once you do this, your ebook should load properly.

Creating an Adobe Digital Editions Account

After downloading the Bluefire or Ebrary App, you must authorize it with your Adobe ID before you can download and read ebooks to your device. To create an Adobe ID, click on this link.

  • On the left side of the page, there is a link that says My Adobe ID - click it
  • Fill out the form and click Create ID
  • Adobe will send you an e-mail  
  • Your Adobe ID is your e-mail address and then whatever password you created
  • The Adobe ID allows you to transfer Adobe ebook content to different devices. If you have one account and multiple devices the account is what allows you to authenticate each device.
  • You do not have to create an actual ID since your e-mail and password will work.
  • You can click on a little box at the bottom left of the corner that says authorize my computer without ID. .

Now you are ready to download ebooks! :)

Please Note

EBSCO does support eBook downloads for:

1. iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPod Touch) on Mobile site
2. Android mobile devices (phones) on Mobile site
3. Desktop users on Mobile site

They do not support:
1. Tablet users on Mobile or Full site
2. Mobile devices on Full site

If you have a tablet or mobile device and use the full site, the download may not function properly.

Ebrary App download for Android and Apple Products

  • If you are using either an Android or Apple device - go to your device's App store and search for Ebrary and download the App.
  • The download is free.
  • Once you download the application, it will ask you to sign into your ebrary account.  If you have not made an ebrary account, please go to the Creating an Account tab and do that.
  • After you sign in, it will ask you for your Adobe Digital ID.  If you have not yet created a Adboe Digital ID, please follow the instructions in the Creating an Adobe Digital Editions Account. Once you have your ID and password, just enter them in and it will authorize the app.

Downloading Bluefire for Android

The Bluefire application runs though the program Google Play. You will need a Google Play App in order to use this application. If you do not have the Google Play app, click on this link to download it first. Follow the prompts and it will download onto your device.

  • On the top of the page there button that says download.
  • Click on the button. Follow the prompts and it will download onto your device. You will want to have it download under Google Play.

After downloading Bluefire, you must authorize it with your Adobe ID before you can download and read ebooks to your device. To create an Adobe ID, click on this link. Please skip to the Creating a Adobe Digital Editions Account box.  Return to this box for additional instructions to authorize your app.

To Authorize the Bluefire App:

  • Open the Bluefire app from your devices applications menu.
  • Enter your Adobe ID and password in the fields provided.
  • Tap Authorize.

Your device is now authorized to read EBSCO eBooks.  Now you are ready to download ebooks! :)

Downloading Bluefire

The Bluefire Reader is a reading application for ePUB and PDF content, including ebooks. The Bluefire reader works for both Apple and Android opperating systems. It is a free application. You can download this app by clicking on this link

Downloading Bluefire for Apple

Note: Your device must be running iOS 3.2 or higher.

You will need the following software:

  • Bluefire Reading App (Installed on your device)
  • iTunes 10.0 or higher
  • Adobe Digital Editions

Install Bluefire Reading App

Install the Bluefire Reader Version 1.2 onto your device. Bluefire is available for free from iTunes at the following link: Bluefire Reader via iTunes

Install iTunes

Download iTunes onto your computer for free from the following link:  http://www.apple.com/itunes/

Install Adobe Digital Editions

Install Adobe Digital Editions to your computer for free from the following link:  http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions

During installation, you are prompted to ‘Authorize Computer’. If you do not already have an Adobe ID, click the link in the next section to get one.

Create an Adobe ID

Create an Adobe ID at the following link:  https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/membership/index.cfm?nf=1&nl=1&loc=en_us

Note: You must authorize both Adobe Digital Editions and the Bluefire app with your Adobe ID.
